The Lis’n Tell® method was developed by Louise Coigley, a Speech Therapist and professional storyteller from the United Kingdom. It is not just a storytelling technique, but a therapeutic and inclusive approach that unites speech therapy, oral tradition and inclusion. The method is a dynamic, experiential way of enhancing communication and linguistic expression. It is used particularly with people who have difficulties with speech, communication or social interaction, including children and adults with: Autism, Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) and Stuttering.
Basic Principles of Lis’n Tell
1. Storytelling with Emotion and Movement
The story is not just told — it is brought to life with tone, rhythm, gestures and gaze.
2. Interaction with the audience
The listener/viewer is not passive. He/she is encouraged to actively participate, with: repetitions of words or phrases, imitation of movements, vocal effects, responses and gestures
3. Visual and Tactile Support
Symbols, objects or story maps can be used, especially for people with reduced verbal skills.
4. Strengthening Self-Confidence
The child or adult can also tell his/her own story, with support, either individually or as a group.
How is it different from other methods?
-Unlike more structured speech therapy narrative interventions, Lis’n Tell:
-Does not rely on scripts or standardized questions.
-Focuses on play, spontaneity, and relationship building.
-Promotes social connection through the joy of storytelling.
-Is culturally adaptable, combining global fairy tales with local elements.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

- The 5R skills for attracting and maintaining children’s attention system.
